One of the side-effects of the pandemic has been the exposure of various dirty little secrets that our society was able to ignore in the ‘before-time’. Did you know about the conditions in meat packing plants? Did you know who does all the hard farm work and how they are treated? The appalling conditions in nursing homes? That there was slavery in Canada up to 1834? That Ontario counties are named after English aristocrats and their friends? I’m sorry to say I did not know these things.
