Mylar was the drafting film used by architects before computers took over. You can draw on both sides of it with ink and pencil. I’m working on integrating this material as a layer in my artwork.
This is an ongoing material experiment rather than a finished solution. I have begun producing sheets of frosted mylar printed with architectural fragments, weather diagrams, and other technical drawing elements that will later be cut up and applied over UV-printed aluminum panels.
What interests me at this stage is the uncertain relationship between the translucent film and the image beneath it. The mylar partially obscures, partially reveals, and changes as light shifts across its surface. I am still testing how these layers interact, how much information can be added before the image collapses, and whether the overlays function as interpretation, interference, or something in between.
